WHO IT MAY CONCERN

The inspection / certification services of lifts and lifts safety components are addressed to manufacturers, installers, maintainers of lifts and lifts safety components and also to building’s owners and building’s administrators.

The inspection of a lift includes a detailed examination of the lift and all related equipment. The purpose of the inspection is to identify any defects that are or may be hazardous and to examine the effectiveness and functionality of all safety components to ensure the protection of users.

It is important the lift inspections not to be confused with the lift preventive maintenance.

CERTIFICATION OF NEW LIFTS & LIFTS SAFETY COMPONENTS
CERTIFICATION OF NEW LIFTS & LIFTS SAFETY COMPONENTS

In the European Union all new lifts, before being put into service, shall be inspected and tested in order to determine their safety and compliance with the European Lift Directive 2014/33/EU and the relevant Harmonized Standards.

PERIODICAL INSPECTION OF EXISTING LIFTS

The periodical inspection of an existing lift aims, through a thorough examination and testing, to reassure that the lift keeps the safety level of the installer’s specifications and is still working properly.

More than 50% of the lifts that are in use today were installed more than 20 years ago. Existing lifts were installed to the safety level appropriate at that time. This level is less than today's state of the art for safety. The periodical lifts inspections aim also to check the improvement of safety according the relevant Standard EN81-80 and any national legislation applied in each country.

The time intervals between the periodical inspections of lifts depend on the national legislation applied in each country (if any). However the age, the life cycle, the design parameters, the technology of each lift and the conditions of the place where the lift operates must be considered. Generally a period of six to twenty four months is considered as appropriate between the periodical inspections of an existing lift.
