EUROCERT is an authorized entity on the Sedex (Affiliate Audit Company) platform for the use of Sedex Advance and the conduct of inspections according to the Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit.

WHAT IS SMETA

The SMETA is the inspection methodology developed by Sedex members in order to have a single protocol with principles, which will be implemented by business and will be controlled by recognized inspectors.

The main pillars for SMETA assessment are the following:

  • Working conditions
  • Health & Safety
  • Working hours
  • Payroll
  • Distinctions
  • Environment
  • Business ethics

Upon completion of the inspection and the satisfaction of any noncompliance, the relevant report is issued, which is "upgraded" to the Sedex platform and made available to the suppliers / customers selected by the company.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS
Successful completion of the inspection does not lead to the issue of a certificate but to the relevant report published on the Sedex platform. However, if the company so wishes, EUROCERT may issue a certificate confirming that the inspection has been completed and successfully completed in accordance with the SMETA.
There is no minimum frequency of inspection, as the requirement for this is mainly at the request of a customer. Typically, however, companies choose the annual frequency for conducting an inspection to demonstrate continued compliance and improvement to all interested parties.
There are 2 types of inspection: a) 2-Pillar and b) 4-Pillar. The basic differentiation is that the 4-Pillar inspection includes more requirements and deepens environmental and business ethics. The choice of the appropriate type should be made by the company in consultation with its key customers.
